The 2024 Season

Rain City Symphony nurtures and promotes the appreciation of music by providing quality music performances in the Puget Sound region at no charge to the audience. We have concerts in December, March, and June. We provide amateur musicians with an orchestral experience in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Open to intermediate and advanced strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion, Rain City Symphony plays standard orchestral repertoire.

Our season runs September through early June. If you are interested in playing with us, please see Contacts for more information.

For the 2024 Season, we again will have in-person concerts at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in the Fall and Winter and National Nordic Museum in Spring.

Our 2023-24 season's repertoire has the theme, "Quotations," as many of the compositions either quote or mimic a variety of themes or nature sounds. Among them is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5, which quotes Martin Luther's chorale, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God," in the fourth movement. Sounds of nature can be heard in Dvorak's In Nature's Realm and a lark's song is imitated in Vaughn Williams' The Lark Ascending. Azerbaijani, Turkish, Uzbek and Kazakh folk songs are heard in Ippolitov-Ivanov's Turkish Fragments. Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn quotes a melody inaccurately attributed to Joseph Haydn.
