June 19, 2019 Board Meeting

Type:
Board
Date:
Thursday, June 20, 2019
Status:
Draft

In attendance: Madeline Beery, Hanan Bell, Teresa Metzger-Howe, Koko Morgan, Linda O’Gara, Doug Potter, Bruce Sherman, Kim Waggie and Gennie Winkler.

Minutes
The May 8, 2019 minutes were approved as amended.

Email vote acknowledgement
Teresa's bonus for this year and her contract for the 2019 - 2020 season were passed by an email vote. Teresa has accepted the conducting position once more.

Grant Status
Three year funding grant application deadline for Seattle's Arts and Culture grant is due July 18th.

Venue
Rain City Symphony needs a venue for Winter's preview concert. Kim will also be looking for a venue for next Fall's preview concert. The commuting time to Providence Mount St. Vincent is becoming prohibitive. The difficulty in finding a place is finding one with a hall large enough to accommodate us.

Finance Status
Next year's fiscal budget will reflect the increase of renting the practice space at the Music Center of the Northwest. There were two generous donations given to Rain City Symphony at the Spring Concert. Acknowledgements will be sent. We are expecting an increase in expenses next year.

Sectional Status
Gennie has found a new cello coach, Willie Braun. He has experience coaching adult chamber music and is an accomplished performer.

Publicity Ideas
Gennie would like a Rain City Symphony brochure to display at Midsummer Musical Retreat in Walla Walla, WA. An idea to improve our audience numbers is to place posters in Lake City businesses. The photos on the website need to be updates. Anyone who has permission can upload photos.

Next Year's Repertoire
Teresa announced the repertoire for next year. For the Fall concert it will include the following:

Englebert Humperdinck (1854-1921), Overture to Hansel and Gretel (1894)
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893), Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 29 (1875)
    1. Introduzione e Allegro
Tchaikovsky, Selections from The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a (1892)
     Miniature Overture
     Marche
     Trepak (Russian Dance)
     Reed Flutes
     Scene 8 Waltz

Schedule Summer Retreat
The summer retreat will be Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Doug's house. Please bring a dish for a potluck after the meeting.

We are grateful for funding from King County 4 Culture, Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, and matching funding by Microsoft and Boeing.
