Recorder: Steve Marx (Zoom)
Attending: Hanan Bell, Steve Marx, Gennie Winkler, Samantha Young, Jacqueline Kim, Joan Kim, Bora McAteer, Teresa Howe, Charlotte Hotchkiss
Agenda Items:
1) April Minutes, as amended, were approved.
2) Director’s Report: The two percussionists originally recruited for the June concert are unavailable. Teresa is requesting the services of Denali Williams with a stipend of $200 plus his transportation fee TBD. There is also the possibility of using a BYSO student or people being contacted by Board members as of this writing. For other unfilled instrumental positions, guest musicians are being invited on an as needed basis.
3) Rehearsal Space: Wedgewood Presbyterian Church has approved our use of their space for next season. Items to be negotiated: Cost and amount of storage space available. Rain City also needs to complete our schedule so we can find a work-around for the Wednesday when the church is unavailable during Easter Week.
4) Moving From MCNW to Wedgewood: If room in the church, we will take all 35 chairs; otherwise we will take 18, the number indicated by orchestra members. Action Items: As soon as the Board receives official confirmation from Wedgewood Presbyterian, Rain City will give notice to the Executive Director of MCNW, and an update will be given to the orchestra members.
5) Website Proposal: The Board has approved the Why For Good proposal for a new website at an approximate cost of $6,000. Once started, it is estimated that the blueprint of the new site will be ready in about 8 weeks. At that point the site will be built by Bora and Samantha.
6) Prep for June 11th Concert: We have 3 people to help with front-of-house tasks. We are planning a reception on the second floor with room temperature finger food and drinks.
7) Grants: Charlotte is collecting information about orchestra membership demographics for a new grant, the Accelerator Grant from the Arts Fund organization. Seattle Parks has declined all applications so far.
8) 2025 – 2026 Season: The Board has put together a rehearsal and concert schedule for next season. It will be finalized after receiving input from the two churches involved and their holiday schedules.
9) Upcoming Events:
A) Saturday, July 12—an evening with Val Courney to facilitate Vision and Values for the future—location TDB.
B) August 9, afternoon Summer Retreat to work on various tasks including board member job descriptions and a final board-meeting schedule.
10) Board Meetings: Next meeting is June 18, 7 p.m. (Live or Zoom?). Starting in the Fall, the Board is scheduling a meeting each month in case that many are needed.
